Runway2Magazine2Sidewalk: LV Skirt

Photobucket

First seen in Paris on the runway for Louis Vuitton's Fall 2008 collection this sculptural wool skirt seems to be one popular piece! Making it's rounds first in Essence Magazine on curvaceous singer Beyonce Knowles who paired it with a long-sleeve turtleneck, as on the runway, and an artistic statement necklace and belt by Basia and Emilio Pucci respectively. The skirt was then spotted on a fashionista leaving LV's Spring 09 showing with ofcourse a long-sleeve shirt, shoes from the LV fall 08 collection, fur scarf, and a white clutch. I must say I like the latter most of the three, effortlessly chic!

Who knew...

Should-be supermodel and Oscar nominated actress, Uma Thurman, covers InStyle magazine for it's September 08' issue. Within the publication the bird-like beauty dishes on fashion, family, and her love for rap music! Thurman confesses her favorite album is the late Tupac Shakur classic All Eyez on Me!

Who knew.... But Uma isn't the only one coming out of the closet with her love for the genre. See who else confesses hip hop as their favorite guilty pleasure after the jump!

Eccentric designer and all around fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld tells US Haper's Bazaar
"Believe it or not, I love rap!"
Decked out in Phat Farm jeans, Adidas, and a hip hop t-shirt Lagerfeld serves up his best b-boy pose against a run down building!
Hmmm... I'm not too sure if I'm convinced! I wonder if he's more of a Ready to Die man to Thurman's All Eyez on Me? At any rate he's Karl Lagerfeld who am I to second guess?

I Think I Love My Wife...

Acclaimed actress, L'Oreal spokesmodel, social activist, and one-time music video director Miss Kerry Washington graces this month's GIANT magazine wearing nothing but black, a pout, and bedroom eyes to rival the best of any Victoria Secret Angel. In this uberly sexy shoot, shot by noted photographer Miko Lim, Kerry is sure to have any man waivering in his devotion to his spouse, even if only til the last page of the spread. I've been a fan of Miss Washington's since Save The Last Dance, and have enjoyed her performances in Ray, The Last King of Scotland, and I Think I Love My Wife. Possessing regalness, beauty, a keen fashion sense, and authentic acting chops she's always been a favorite of mine. I feel she just might be the next Halle...anyone?

Either way catch the rest of the seductive shots after the jump!

Sex with Aleksandr Petrovsky

I know every one's crazy for Carrie and Big! Lets face it, that's the relationship, or lack there of, the iconic series is centered around; but my favorite beau of Miss Bradshaw's has to be Aleksandr Petrovsky. Yet, my choice is not for their chemistry at all, but hands down the fashion he brought out of the on-screen style icon. Throughout the relationship, filled with gallery openings, an extravagant trip to Paris, and other events spent, or not, with the legendary member of the international art crowd; Carrie's wardrobe was the perfect combination of vintage and haute couture ever televised! I'm sure this fashionable bliss had to do with it being the show's final season in someway or another, nevertheless, it made me an eternal fan!
Photobucket

For example one of my favorite, yet more formal, ensembles from that period was this pink charmeuse Oscar de la Renta Spring 04 dress Carrie wore to an opera she and her "luvah" never entered. The Manhattanite looked the part of Parisian-chic with a feminine ballooning silhouette paired amidst a cropped tuxedo blazer, black leather gloves, and pink clutch, aligned with gold trimming, securely in hand! Need I say more?

Model of the Moment: Sasha Pivovarova

Photobucket

Russian model Sasha Pivovarova made her splash onto the scene in 2005. Then a fresh-face 20 year old, major fashion house Prada booked her to walk exclusively in both the Prada and Miu Miu F/W 05 shows. Sasha also landed a spot in the much hyped Prada campaign of that season, shot by Steven Meisel. Since then Pivovarova and her striking cheek bones, prominent jaw line, and piercing eyes have become a staple on the most coveted catwalks, magazine covers, campaigns, and editorials in the industry. Being replaced by legendary supermodel Linda Evangelista as the face of Prada this past season, a title she's held for the past couple of years, many thought this beauties career would slow down. But to the contrary she has picked up deals with Armani beauty, Tiffany & Co., and Pringle of Scotland to name a few. She has also been on five international Vogue covers in 2008 alone! Besides supermodel stardom Sasha doubles as a wife and artist. Some of her work has been published in French Vogue. It's not only Sasha's feline-like features, but her love for what she does that gives her staying power within this fickle industry, and makes her my Model of the Moment!

Remember this?

Awww...the innocence! Here's Solange's 2002 single "Feelin' You (Part II)" featuring rapper N.O.R.E. I must admit I was nodding my head to the short-lived tune back in the day. Solange's debut album Solo Star was actually a pretty solid effort, but failed to make a dent on any chart. I personally don't think the public knew how to take her as Beyonce's little sister, yet her sound wasn't very "r&b" or "pop" enough. Mixing a bohemian with a rasta look Knowles' offbeat style is nothing new. Though, this was her only solo music video she was featured on single "True Love" by rapper Lil' Romeo. Fast-forward to 2008, I'm glad to see the now Sol-Angel is back with a vengeance! Though her style is still very whimsical and music experimental there's an evolution happening and I love it!

Oh, and a funny thing I noticed... The video ends with Solange's crush entering her "solo spot" then the classic "to be continued..." appears. Ofcourse, the next thing we know she's a mother... They grow up so fast!

Anyways, catch Solo's brand new music video for second single "Sandcastle Disco" after the jump!

Wanted: Dee and Ricky's Pixel Heart Pin

Photobucket

As seen on fashion mongers such as Kanye West and Genevieve Jones, also sitting in the pages of August's issue of US Elle magazine Dee and Ricky's pixel heart pin has been added to my ever-growing wish list! This clever accessory is sure to add a pop of color and fun to any ensemble! As seen in the photos above the heart is worn over denim, leather, cotton, even tweed jackets and blazers for an amusing effect. The unisex pin comes in two different sizes, 2 x 5" & 3 x 2", and three colors, red, black, and multi-colored, to choose from! Twins Dee & Ricky are also the minds behind the Lego-inspired accessories worn in Marc by Marc Jacobs' S/S 08 showing. At anyrate school is almost in, and I need this "bad as my heartbeat..."!

Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams Inspire Fan

Off the heels of her recent promo visit to the UK, Solange performed at the Stone Soul Picnic event in Washington, D.C. this past week. During her set a, dare I say drunken, picnic-goer was inspired by the soulful instrumental of "I Decided" onto the stage to give his own show and rendition of the girl's routine. Instead of letting security whisk the man away Solange proceeds to dance with him and let eager bodyguards know "he ain't hurtin' nobody!". She goes on to thank the man for his performance as she tips off stage with background singers! Ahhhhh... how I love this girl!

Keira Knightley Vogue Sept. 08'

Acclaimed, and might I add gorgeous, actress Keira Knightley graces the cover of the September issue of US Vogue in F/W 08 Balenciaga. The photo was shot by world renowned fashion photographer Mario Testino. Though I'm not too keen on the cover-shot her spread inside of the magazine is what gave me the life I needed! The styling of Miss Knightley is on-point! From the lace, to the prints, and bold accessories! I want every bit of what she is serving! Get into the headpiece in the photo with the LBD!

Spotted: Omahyra Mota is it a comeback?

Photobucket

Androgynous model/actress Omahyra Mota has been m.i.a. from the fashion world for awhile. After her appearance in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand she took a break from high profile work, but now it seems Miss Mota is back on the runways and I must say I'm excited! Here she is recently appearing in shows for Vivienne Westwood's Gold Label, Jean Paul Gaultier, and JPG Menswear. Most may not understand, but I'm a big fan of her androgynous look. To me she's the harder version of Agyness Deyn. Anyways, I hope she makes her way back to print soon. I loved her JPG fragrance ad from some season's back!

Have Ya Heard?: Solange "Fuck The Industry (Singed Sincerely)"

Solange freestyle's over Kanye West's "Everything I Am" instrumental to deliver a sincere letter to the music industry's big wigs! I love the honesty of this track. Here's what the star had to say...

“Unfortunately I’m in an industry where diversity is not celebrated the way it should be. When some people see and hear something different it feels foreign to them and they don’t like that. Everyone has a choice of what they like and that’s a beautiful thing! But record labels, managers, publicist, journalist, media etc… have a tendency to see something work and try to reciprocate that with another artist thinking that’s what makes success. To me what makes success is letting people be truly who they are. When I heard Kanye’s ‘Everything I Am,’ I instantly fell in love. I felt my story somewhere in his. I felt his frustration yet acceptance of who he was. So I decided to put my own little twist on it!”

Song & lyrics after the jump!

Download the song here!

Artist: Solange Knowles
Title: Fuck The Industry (Signed Sincerely)

I'll never be picture-perfect Beyonce
Fly like J-Lo
Or singing baby like Shanti
I barely comb my hair, yeah that's on a good day
I don't care what the hood say
I ain't street like Keyshia
Aint never tried to be
And I got soul in my soul
But not quite like Mary
Ain't nothing really R&B about me
And I said bump what the Hood say
I'm sorry I ain't in the Benzes in my videos
I'm sorry I ain't even really trying to match my clothes
I can tell you ???
But I can also tell you who the king dealer is
And I got knowledge if you really want to talk about it
No I don't trust projects just to walk around it
So, I'm writing this letter to the industry
It says F*ck You Signed Sincerely

Aww yeah
Here we go again
"Solo, can you tone it down?
Be more like them?"
But everything I'm not
Makes me everything I am
Awww yeah
Oh, here we go again
People talking shit, but when the shit hits the fan
Everything I'm not makes me everything I am

I'm not a goody-goody
But I don't watch my mouth
I ain't no goody-goody
But I appreciate the ones who rooting for me
Cause everybody gone and got an opinion, baby
And I been feeling lately
Like I can't help it
Big up, haters
If you don't like it
I didn't make it for you, ooh, ooooh
You, ooh, ooooh
I'm not apologetic
If you don't like it its probably 'cause you don't get it
And you can tell the world
What you heard I said
And I ain't talking about me
I'm talking bout the ones who represent what I believe
The Fresh Kids
The What Comes Next? Kids
The See You At The Art Exhibit Oh Hell Yes Kids
The Politic Kids, The Be ______ And Declare Your Independence Kids
If I'ma vote for something I'ma go Barack the vote this year
Talking bout the ones who said "Enough!"
But I got too much 'I don't give a what' in my cup
And I don't care what the next man is saying
I'm just saying to the industry
This is F*ck You, Signed Sincerely

Oh, yeah
Oh, here we go again
People talking shit, but I don't give a damn
Everything I'm not makes me everything I am
Oooh, yeah
Oh, here we go again
People talking shit with no pot to piss in
But everything I'm not is everything
I can

I can do anything
I remember the Doc sayin "Whatchu gone do? Girl you 17?"
'Ye ripped on this track, made it into a jam
I just borrowed it just to tell you who I am

Feel the girl!

Cover Roundup: September 08'

Pop Magazine gives me life with their multiple cover issue, six in total, featuring supermodels Naomi Campbell, Amber Valletta, and Natalia Vodianova. Cover girls also include top models Oluchi Onweagba, Agyness Deyn, and Jourdan Dunn. Each cover was shot by Sebastian Faena and the ladies are styled in Prada's seductive lace! Most of all though, I love the diversity in the casting and what each girl brings to the cover!
